A bit easier

It should always be a bit easier than that.
You know what I mean.
I mean easier than that algebraic equation that stumped you,
No matter how many times you practiced.
Or, that theorem that you could not prove.
You just could not get to QED, quod erat demonstrandum.
It should be easier than that.
Always.

It should be easier than reaching that village near Chilika lake,
The village whose name I can not remember.
It should really be easier than remembering that name too.
That village from which Jaai left as a young married girl,
And returned as a goddess.
You are not to put your feet in the water,
unless you lift some water with cupped hands to put on your head.
Or the waves of the sea may get in the lake and take your boat to the sky,
Much like what it did to the boat of Jaai.
Much like how your own emotions try to drown you sometimes.
They are no less than the waves of Chilika.
Crossing a lake should be easier than that.
And less scary too!

It should have been easier to go the villages across Bhilangana river.
Instead there was just a wooden bridge that creaked below our feet.
A mountain stood right across the river.
We should have been able to walk on the plains a bit before we climbed,
But no!
We had to climb in the last rays of the sun,
And cross a few hills before we reached the village where we would sleep.
The village, where only women and children lived with very old men.
Finding a place to sleep, to rest should be much easier than that.

It should be easier to say, "I miss you!"
Easier than forming a convoluted sentence about fear and distance and reverence.
Easier than rumbling something about other's demand on your time and your constraints,
It should be easier to say,
"Hold my hand", "Walk with me", "Don't let me go..not yet!"
But its often not.
It should be easier to express love,
Easier than expressing anger.

And,
It should be easier to stay, than coming back again and again to the same shore.
Alas! it is not.
